《Oil Pastels Painting for "International Redefining Wealth Day"》, by dawnxisoul393art

Alice looked out of the window at the rolling hills surrounding her farm. The morning sun bathed the undulating sea of green in a golden glow. A flock of birds chirped and flew by, riding the currents of the wind. She smiled, feeling a deep sense of peace and contentment. Her little farm may not produce much, but it was enough for her needs. She had fresh air, clean water, hearty food, shelter, community and purpose - true measures of wealth in her eyes.

International Redefining Wealth Day on March 15 invites people to reconsider how they view wealth and success. Traditionally, wealth has been measured by the accumulation and consumption of money and material goods. But this narrow definition of wealth is unsustainable and damaging to society and the planet. In 2015, ecological economics professor Mark Anielski founded this day as an opportunity for people to reflect on what really matters for human happiness and well-being.

When we redefine wealth to include health, relationships, experiences, community, purpose and harmony with nature, we begin to make better choices and progress towards a sustainable future for all. Our excessive desire for physical and monetary wealth has led to deforestation, pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change. By pursuing infinite growth on a finite planet, we are undermining the very source of all real wealth - a healthy, just and sustainable world.

On this day, people around the globe organize film screenings, meditation sessions, community picnics and online discussions to explore sustainable ways of living. Educators develop lessons to teach students about the benefits of simplicity and sustainability. Environment groups share stories of individuals and communities prospering through green living and local cooperation. Conferences and workshops discuss alternative measures of progress like the Genuine Progress Indicator that accounts for societal and ecological well-being.

At the heart of these conversations and events is a common call to rethink our beliefs about success and abundance. Real wealth comes from relationships not transactions, natural vitality rather than artificial stimulation, and making a positive difference instead of endless accumulation. By redefining wealth in this wise and balanced way, we can achieve prosperity for all within the means of nature. On this day, and everyday, each of us has the power to build a healthier, happier and greener world by changing our mindsets and choices. Together, we can redefine wealth for humanity and the planet.
