《Oil Pastels Painting for"World Seagrass Day"》, by dawnxisoul393art

Donna gazed out at the blue sea as she paddled out in her kayak. As the water cleared, she spotted a meadow of waving green seagrass below. A school of tiny fish darted in and out of the blades of grass. A ray glided by, hovering just above the seagrass bed.

Donna smiled, glad to see the seagrass meadow thriving. Not long ago, this area had been overfished and polluted, the seagrass meadow nearly disappearing. Concerned scientists and citizens banded together to clean up the bay, reduce pollution, and raise awareness about this vital but often overlooked ecosystem.

Seagrass is the only marine flowering plant in our ocean, which has created an important marine habitat in shallow and hidden coastal areas. Seagrass meadows have many ecosystem services: they are habitats, nursery grounds and foraging areas for thousands of marine animals. They also produce oxygen, improve water quality, buffer ocean acidification, reduce coastal erosion and lock carbon in their sediments.

Seagrass is threatened on a global scale, which is usually due to the threat of human activities, such as industrial and agricultural pollution and coastal development. In order to protect these grasslands, we must spread our understanding of seagrass ecosystem services.

World Seagrass Day aims to educate people about seagrass meadows and their importance in coastal environments around the globe. Seagrass meadows are home to thousands of marine species, protect coastlines from erosion, and absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. However, seagrass meadows are declining worldwide due to human activity like pollution, coastal development, and destructive fishing practices.

People are encouraged to plant seagrass in the place where seagrass disappears on World Seagrass Day, monitor the health status of seagrass and publicize how people can help protect these fragile and valuable ecosystems.Scientists share their latest research on seagrass to raise awareness of the role seagrass plays in maintaining biodiversity and mitigating climate change.

March is also known as seagrass awareness month. The World Seagrass  Day designated by the United Nations has given seagrass due recognition, and the whole world is celebrating it. In recent years, the knowledge about seagrass has made great progress, but there is still a long way to go for seagrass. By continuing to raise awareness and better understand these incredible marine plants, we can protect these vital ecosystems.

March 1 is World Seagrass Day. Here's our painting with oil pastels for this special day, and have a wonderful World Seagrass Day, cheers!
