THE SUGGESTION OF LOTUS GODDESS — OWL SPIRIT
(One of our spiritual self-healing thoughts)
It was a late summer night. Deep in the silence of a large primeval forest, there was a lotus pond with countless beautiful lotus flowers. In the fresh breeze, two beautiful koi fishes are dancing in a special form under the moonlight, and the beautiful dance is accompanied by the dreamy sound of water waves, which is amazing. The beautiful lotus goddess is quietly listening to the sacred sound of the earth. The owl behind the lotus goddess is alert and flexible. It is observing all the movements that are happening in the silent darkness. The lotus goddess tells us, that in front of the inner and outer challenges of our lives, the wise owl will be our guide, to transform our own energy into strength, helping us to find truth and make wise decisions in the darkness.
The coming of darkness reminds most birds that it is time to rest. But for the owl, this is just the beginning of its day. The owl’s extraordinary eyesight and keen sense of hearing allow it to use its superb ability to scrutinize everything in the dark. It is calling our attention to uncover the illusion and find the truth. In the darkness, lurking dangers and deceptions are everywhere, but if we are true to our hearts, we can never go wrong. In many parts of the world, owls are regarded as auspicious birds and are universally loved. The owl symbolizes majesty and victory. In the darkness of the night, the owl meditates, taking stock of all that has happened during the day, occasionally emitting a few remarkable chirps of alarm. The owl’s beak and talons are hooked, suggesting latent power. Its eyes are not on the sides of the head like other birds, but in front, and the feathers around the eyes are radiating, forming a “faceplate”, it has a wide field of vision, and keen gaze, which seems to be able to see through all the intrigues and potential crises in the world.

From ancient times to the present, people believe that owls have a high IQ. The love bird of Athena, the goddess of wisdom in Greek mythology, was an owl that was believed to foretell events, and thus the ancient Greeks honored the owl as a symbol of wisdom. In Japan, the owl is known as a bird of fortune, with auspicious meaning, and has also become the mascot of the Winter Olympics. The Japanese chose four owlets as mascots, the first time four animals were used as mascots for the Olympics, and the four mascots were named Snowlets, each with a different name: Sukki, Nokki, Lekki, and Tsukki, representing the four different elements of forest life: fire, wind, earth, and water. Archaeological research conducted by the International Research Center of Red Mountain Culture of Inner Mongolia Chifeng Institute in recent years has revealed that the owl was the main totem object of worship in the Red Mountain culture. Around 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, people living in the Red Mountain region feared the darkness. The owl was a prevalent raptor in the Red Mountain region, active in the dark and able to fly high into the sky, which gave people a sense of mystery of access to the yin and yang of heaven and earth. Therefore, during the Red Mountain Culture, the ancestors wished they themselves could be like the owls, able to move in the dark and soar into the sky, able to have the same magical power as the owls, to fight against nature.

The wizard in the Harry Potter books, equipped with an owl postal service. In fact, the mysterious connection between owls and wizards has a long history. The owls of medieval European mythology may not have been able to help their masters deliver letters, but it was widely believed that owls were faithful companions of wizards because of their keen observation skills and outstanding memory, which could help their masters remember complex magic secrets and spells. Many wizards need to seek the help of an owl when they encounter dangerous situations. The way the world looks depends on the perspective from which we view it. A heartfelt reverence for nature comes from a deeper understanding of it. The understanding and aspiration of human beings for owls have led people to quietly change the inherent image of owls in their minds, making their dull images become real and vivid.

The owls are extremely widespread, with sightings occurring all over the world except for the Arctic. Owls breeding generally begins in March and ends in May to June. Owls usually do not build nests in the breeding process, but use tree holes, rock holes, or abandoned nests of other birds to hatch eggs and raise their nestlings. The number of eggs laid in a clutch varies, and the female usually completes the incubation. Owl cubs usually break free from the shell about one month after the eggs begin to hatch, and then the male and female share the task of raising the cubs. All owl cubs are finished cubs, i.e., the newly hatched young are already covered with feathers on their bodies. In recent years, a park in East Kowloon, Hong Kong has been very busy days and nights in April and May. Some owls and their baby owls found in a tree hole in the park have attracted the attention of many Hong Kong residents. In the eyes of Hong Kong people, the owls that usually lurk in the forest are full of mystery as they only move around at night and are rarely seen during the day.

Baby owls are small and round, and because their wings are not yet abundant, they look like little white balls of fur at first glance. The baby owls have a pleasant appearance, and from time to time, they will turn their eyes around, look through the holes, and shake their heads and pose, making them very popular with the residents. In addition to being cute, they also “eliminate harm” for the people. At night, the adults carry the rats, cockroaches and other pests they catch in the neighborhood to feed their babies. The owls are very attractive to bird photographers, and for us painters, we also do not want to lose the opportunity. After nightfall every day, the enthusiasts not only do not relax but also pay extra attention. There are several street lights near the bird’s nest, so even without the help of other lights, we can still clearly photograph the outline of the owl at night. This park is relatively quiet and undisturbed, which may be why these owl families choose it as their habitat and breeding place. Two years ago, a young owl fell from the tree due to a strong storm. We witnessed their families, their emotions, their joys and sorrows in life, and their hard work that our human beings are also good at. We can experience the kind of sentiment that gradually emerges from the process of contact with owls, a wonderful connection between creatures by equal contacts, such contacts may be extremely short-lived, but it will be engraved in the memory.

Asordinary people trying to balance our family’s income and expenses, we see our lives in owls. Our love for the world basically comes from a process of connection, interaction and understanding with other creatures. Observing the behaviour of owls is significant in itself, and we can learn some pure emotions from it. Owls can feel the subtle changes of time and space in the dark, and turn the disadvantages into advantages. In our painting, the owl’s wisdom tells us that before we take any action, we need to combine our knowledge, experience and intuition to predict the problems we may encounter on the way forward, and use our agile senses and clear thinking to make wise decisions. By maintaining vitality and creativity, profound changes will appear in the deepest part of our hearts, and we will find the magic of life. Lotus goddess suggests that we learn from owl’s wisdom, release our potential and create a better future.
