Today, we reviewed the film《Central Station》, directed by Walter Salles and released in 1988. We have some different feelings. On the whole, the film can be divided into two parts. At first, Dora wrote letters to customers at Grand Central Station, mostly crying or complaining. Later, however, he wrote letters for the customers in the marketplace of the town where Joshua's brothers lived, and the content was mostly related to gratitude and happiness. The film is realistic but does not lack unexpected coincidences, realistic, but with idealistic feelings, cold, but also exudes the warmth of humanity, let us have a kind of inexplicable touch. Central Station was praised as one of the "best movies in the world" by film critics all over the world. It won the Golden Bear award, Silver Bear Award, and Oscar Award for the best foreign-language film at the Berlin International Film Festival. One old and one young, the journey from south to north, accompanied by the heavy and gloomy melody of the cello, stirred the softest string at the bottom of our hearts.

This effect came from director Walter Salles' profound understanding of the entire story, with just the right amount of detail control. Multiple repetitive imageries in the film created a heart-wrenching effect, a touching atmosphere, and a nod to the film's theme. The expression of details had become a masterstroke in the performance of the whole plot and character characteristics, which was natural and smooth. The comparison of the details in the first half and the second half of the film made us see the changes, so as to experience the psychological trajectory of the characters. When the green light was on, the crowd crowded around the street, the top in Joshua's hand fell to the ground. The child ran to pick it up. His mother urged his son to hurry up. A speeding bus came, and his mother fell down. A tragic traffic accident left a 9-year-old boy orphaned and tied to our hearts. Brazilian national treasure actress Fernanda Montenegro and child actor Vinícius de Oliveira stared in the film about the themes of "search" and "redemption.

The central station, noisy and chaotic. The town where Joshua's brothers lived, on the other hand, seemed quiet and warm and orderly, with neat rows of cottages, a wide view, people helping each other and smiling, and the central station forming a stark contrast. Dora's customers at the central station were telling "bad news", such as letters to crooks, to people in jail, to prostitutes, and so on. But in that small town, far from the big city, where the poor people were simple and kind, they told "good news", the happiest man, the husband who has succeeded in quitting drinking, the happy bride, the good harvest, etc. In the big city, people were indifferent to each other, they were always in a hurry to run to the exit and entrance of the station, no matter they departed or arrived, they didn't have time to stop. Whereas in the small remote town, although people were poor, they had smiles from their hearts and devout faith and possessed a rich inner world.

There were two clues throughout the film, "letter" and "father". The two clues were actually the concretization of the two themes of the film "commitment" and "Hope". The two clues were not parallel but intertwined. Dora realized the importance of trust and commitment by helping Joshua find his father. The open line lied in Dora taking Joshua to find his father and finally fulfilling her promise to take him home. The dark line lay in Joshua's influence on Dora all the way, which made her from a snobbish woman who couldn't taste life to a trustworthy person who knew how to trust and taste life. Under the influence of Joshua, Dora learned to keep her promise. Dora learned to trust others and express her true feelings. With Dora's help, Joshua walked out of the psychological shadow of losing his mother. At the same time, he put down his hostility to Dora and learned to be grateful.

Joshua's mother was hit by a bus and killed, the sound of the cello sounded sad and somber, mournful, mournful, the sound of the cello set off Joshua's small and helpless, lonely and helpless. When Dora and Joshua came to Joshua's father's residence, Joshua ran and rushed like an arrow. A white fog stirred up on the ground, and the rhythm of the background music became cheerful and high. The surrounding scenery was pleasant and the mountains were far away. Our mood fluctuated and jumped with the music. With anticipation and unknown doubts, the search for loved ones became a twist and turn with the music. At the beginning of each journey, the melodious piano solo and the thick chord of the cello added a layer of compassion and tenderness, showing a touch of sadness.

There were two turning points in the film. The first turning point was the accidental death of Joshua's mother Anna, bringing together two people whose original life path could not have an intersection. The second turning point was the dispute between Dora and Joshua. The dispute was the total outbreak of contradictions between the two people, but it was this dispute that made both sides realize the importance of each other and see the good side of each other. A top, a lipstick, appearing many times in the film, though people's association and imagination, these recurring objects were given a deeper and more far-reaching symbolic meaning, producing a meaningful effect and function. The top, the established trajectory of fate, Anna took Joshua twice and asked Dora to write to the boy's father on her behalf, Joshua was playing with the top, which was given to him by his father, symbolizing his father's presence in an invisible form. Lipstick, the desire for love, Dora developed feelings for the enthusiastic truck driver, and for the first time she put on the borrowed lipstick with the desire for love.

Dora set out on her way home alone. As if by some kind of psychic induction, Joshua suddenly woke up. When he found that Dora had left, he went after the bus without a second thought. The bus has already left, Joshua is still barefoot all the way to run wildly to try to catch up with the bus. Dora wrote a lot of letters for others in her life, but she didn't have anyone to write to. Now she could finally write to Joshua. "Dear Joshua, you're right. Your father will definitely come back. As he told you, he is a good father. My father used to be a train driver... When you drive a big truck, don't forget that the first person who let you drive was me. Now I miss my father so much, I miss everything so much... " (approximate meaning) Dora let tears crisscross her face. Joshua was like golden sunshine, melting the ice in her heart. She finally started to open up her own heart and began to slowly accept the world.

During a journey, adults and children heal and rely on each other. After being slapped in the face by life, Dora closed herself. She hid from the world and endured loneliness and suffering. Sometimes, we are equally paranoid. Admittedly, we must admit that the world is often cruel. Not every family is happy, not every love is happy, childhood is not all carefree, lovers are not all-loving each other, and people are not always kind and friendly. However, do not deny ourselves because one person has failed us, and we do not have to deny the love of the world because we have had a heartbreaking experience.

When we feel we can't put something down, we don't have to put it down. When we feel we can't forget something or someone, we don't have to forget. The important thing is not that when we have pain, we ask to be cured. The important thing is that when we have pain, we can open our hearts and live happily!
