Today we watched the British public television Channel 4's film "Help", and it was quite touching to look back on the years from 2020 to now. The film tells the story of the fate of Tony, a resident suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's disease, and Sarah, a young nursing worker in a nursing home in Liverpool in the early days of covid-19 in England. Covid-19 had changed their lives forever. The actress Jodie Comer created an image of a young nurse with a rebellious temperament and dedication by virtue of her superb acting skills. “Help” chose in the early stage of the epidemic, because when the whole society was facing a rapidly spreading unknown disaster, its reaction speed could best reflect the operation effectiveness of a social mechanism, while helped chose nursing homes because, as a "hidden corner" not valued by the national medical service system, the situation of nursing homes under the epidemic could best reflect the operation ability of a social mechanism, And the humanistic care of the authorities.

Jodie played Sarah, a helpless nursing home nurse when covid-19 broke out in Britain. Jodie's performance tension was excellent and the performance was very natural. Sarah, who called for help to no avail, endured the difficult breakdown of nursing a seriously ill patient alone at night, was shaped by her elastic fragility and eternal strength, it seemed that she would be knocked down by the sadness and despair swept in the next moment, but she still walked forward with trembling, although there was no help, she never let go easily. Help focused on the ups and downs of Sarah in the face of covid-19. Through a large number of life details, Director created a three-dimensional and distinctive image of a nursing worker who risked her life and insisted on working in nursing homes during covid-19.

Another keyword of the film is "respect". Sarah, who was looking for a job, left the nursing home angrily after being humiliated by the supervisor, but what finally made her decide to stay was a cup of hot tea that Tony risked to catch up with and give her. She felt that she was respected. When she couldn't help Kenny turn over, Sarah had to ask Tony in his sleep for help, but she knew it might put Tony in danger, so she insisted on asking Tony's consent. This was Sarah's respect for Tony's right to life. Sarah's father was old and weak, but he also wanted to work in the nursing home. Because he couldn't stand the arrogance of the food relief office in handing out Christmas cookies to him, Sarah's father hoped to win a respect for himself through labor. Sarah's performance in the epidemic was not guided by the bounden duty of medical workers to "save the dying and heal the wounded", but more out of personal feelings.

In the nursing home, she was respected and realized her self-worth. That's why Sarah's experience of working the night shift alone in the nursing home resonated strongly with us. Because she let us see the desperate struggle of a small person falling into the mire, and see the flickering light of humanity under extreme circumstances. The title "Help" of the film not only referred to Sarah's careful care for the residents of the nursing home but also meant that Sarah's soul was redeemed and sublimated through nursing and anti-epidemic work. When the epidemic led to the blockade, material shortage, and the death of residents one by one due to infection, Sarah resisted the pressure and collapse alone. The beauty of human nature was always what the director wanted to show, but the anger hidden in the story itself was also obvious. The director of the nursing home gave Tony Valium in order to keep him from escaping. When the authorities caught the escaped Sarah and Tony, they didn't care where Tony was going.

The film reflected all aspects of COVID-19's outbreak in early 2020. While shaping the role, it explained why Sarah paid so much attention to caring for the elderly and patients. Sarah cherished the dignity and value she found in the nursing home. She wanted to maintain this hard-earned "gift". This was a touching individual growth story, and the ubiquitous shallow focused lens in the film could not only enlarge Sarah's loneliness, anxiety and helplessness, but also showed us that compared with the epidemic environment, the director payed more attention to the individual's unique life experience. In addition to Sarah and Tony, the director did not forget to tell about the nursing home residents and describe their different characters. For example, Hercules, the mentally ill old man overturned Sarah's breakfast for fear of wearing false teeth, and then took Sarah's hand apologetically like a wrong child.

Kenny, a huge man, treated people warmly, but would also seize every opportunity to quarrel with others to relieve the loneliness. Then there is Polly, the English teacher, who often looks tenderly and deeply at the world around her, recites the works of poets such as Edward Diehl, and brings poetry to her boring life. Sarah tried to protect the place, which was about to be destroyed by the virus. She didn't leave and did her best to help the people she wanted to protect. The director used long shots to present the powerlessness of individuals in the face of the onslaught of the epidemic. The elderly in the nursing home coughed wildly due to infection, but the ambulance didn't come. Sarah had to take care of the elderly by herself. But she was not a professional nurse, seeing that the medicine was useless, the old people's condition continued to deteriorate, they were like people abandoned in the post-apocalyptic world, could only use their own meager strength to fight the terrible virus. Without awareness of the virus and adequate protective equipment, many nursing homes had become the initial outbreak point of the epidemic.

"Help" chose this perspective to show the individual experience. It is a work with bleak background and a sharp core. In the film, public officials and medical personnel only appeared when transporting the elderly to the nursing home, carrying the body and arresting Sarah. A caregiver asked for epidemic prevention supplies from the public officials who came to carry the bodies, but they only left a cold back that went away. After a night of helpless shock, Sarah turned on the radio, but heard the authorities openly claim that they have been committed to protecting nursing home residents. At that moment, public officials came to arrest Sarah and Tony. Although Sarah begged not to send Tony back to the nursing home, the film finally settled on Tony walking into the dark corridor of the nursing home again and Sarah's desperate face.

Although the film did not further explain the fate of Sarah and Tony, it was conceivable that Sarah would be charged, and Tony would either be infected with covid-19 and die, or continue to be fed medicine by the supervisor and become an unconscious walking corpse.
