A "Paradise" to Avoid the Noise - Tung Lung Chau Island:
It's not too difficult to go to Tung Lung Chau Island for sketching and painting. Last weekend, we took a boat from Mui Wo to central, walked about 500 meters from central (Hong Kong and Macao wharf) to Gilliwen street, took KMB 603s Road, passed 7 or 8 stops, got off at Liyumen square, and walked about 700 meters to Liyumen Wharf in Sanjia village. Take a boat from Sanjia village wharf and arrive in about half an hour. It was a holiday and there were a lot of people. Tung Lung Chau Island is the southernmost island in Saigon District, Hong Kong. The island covers an area of 2.42 square kilometers. Most places are shrub-covered mountains, with a maximum altitude of 232 meters. As the island has been battered by wind and waves for a long time, many natural sea caves have been formed. The only public transport connecting Tung Lung Chau Island with Hong Kong and other places is the ferry. Many of our friends always feel that we need enough physical strength to visit the suburbs, and we need to prepare a lot of things to go. In fact, in Hong Kong, it is very convenient to stay away from the noise and go to the suburbs, such as Tung Lung Chau Island.

Today's Tung Lung Chau Island, only a very small number of places have a small number of residential homes, only a few dozen huts on the island, the environment is very quiet and serene. The environment is very quiet and quiet. Although the area of Tung Lung Chau Island is small, there are many historical stories and historic sites. Legend has it that during the Song Dynasty, a fisherman was caught in a storm in the nearby sea and floated safely to Tung Lung Chau Island by relying on a wooden statue of Tin Hou Goddess as a floating object. In order to thank Tin Hou, he built the "South Buddha Hall Temple" on the shore. Many years later, his descendants rebuilt a new temple at "Clear Water Bay" across Tung Lung Chau Island, which became the largest Tin Hou Temple in Hong Kong, the "North Buddha Hall Temple", or the "Big Temple" in Clear Water Bay, but the South Buddha Hall Temple on Tung Lung Chau Island was gradually abandoned. There are two Hong Kong government declared monuments on the island, one is an ancient stone carving from more than 3,000 years ago, and the other is the “Tung Lung Chau Gun Emplacements”, which had troops stationed as early as the Qing Dynasty, both of which are very precious historical relics, both are very precious historical sites. According to textual research, "Tung Lung Chau Stone Carving" is the earliest documented stone carving in Hong Kong. The stone carvings are about 2.4m long and 1.8m high. They are the largest stone carvings found in Hong Kong. Their patterns are quite complex and the whole pattern looks like a dragon.
The northeastern part of the camp, which occupies about three hectares of land, and the site of the Qing Dynasty Gun Emplacements was designated as the Tung Lung Chau Gun Emplacements Special Area in 1979, overlooking the "Buddha Hall Gate Strait". According to historical records, Tung Lung Chau Gun Emplacements was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty (1662-1722) to defend against pirates. After the Gun Emplacements was built, there was always a garrison. In the early 19th century, pirates became increasingly rampant, and the Gun Emplacements was located on an isolated island. It was difficult to supply and support, so it was replaced by the Kowloon Gun Emplacements in 1810. Tung Lung Chau Gun Emplacements was listed as a monument by the Hong Kong Government in 1980. During holidays, many citizens and tourists come to hike, watch waves, enjoy historic sites, camp, barbecue, fly kites (kites are also sold by the villagers on the island), and attract many rock climbers to climb the cliffs here. The residents of the island provide catering services for tourists. The campsites on the island have the same facilities as other government-designated camps in Hong Kong. There is a helicopter landing pad on the island, which can be used in rescue and emergency.

There were three white families who took the ferry to the island with us. They sat next to us. The white families had 5 very young children, the youngest (a baby girl) was estimated to be smaller than our one year and eight-month-old Dawnxi, she should not be able to walk. They also had seven or eight large and small pet dogs. They said hello to our little Dawnxi because our daughter recently cut short her hair, which was easy to dry after washing her hair, so they thought our Little Dawnxi was a baby boy. When a gentleman saw our drawing board and the water pen in our daughter's hand, he asked our little Dawnxi, "Boy, did you come to the island to paint?" Our little Dawnxi replied, "A girl!". Everyone laughed. Our little Dawnxi laughed too. Half an hour later, we were on Tung Lung Chau Island. We walked along the coast to the southernmost shore of “Luk Keng Bay”, where we could see the endless sea and the view of the waves hitting the cliffs.
Walking along the coast, we listened to the sound of the waves and felt the tranquility and comfort of the sea breeze. We saw the water spray rock, also known as "Hidden Dragon spitting beads". It is a unique natural wonder on the island, every time the waves hit the rocks, they stir up waves several meters high, with a maximum of about 3 meters high water column, which is extremely spectacular, it is a wonder that the waves reflect upward through the rock wall after passing through the narrow sea erosion cave. "Buddha Hall Gate Lighthouse", also known as "Lighthouse 184", was a defense facility built by the Japanese army. The white lighthouse was surrounded by the sea. There was a small bridge between the lighthouse and the coast. "Chicken Stone" is a weathered conglomerate boulder. From different angles, we could see different shapes.

Many people camped on Tung Lung Chau Island that day, the camps were divided into unofficial camps and official camps, the unofficial camp had beautiful scenery, while the official camp had complete equipment. People could choose to see the sea view and mountain view, or camp. While enjoying the beautiful scenery, they could enjoy the fun of camping! We sketched and painted while walking, and walked to the camp. There were at least two campsites in front of us, which were very large. It seemed that hundreds of tents could be built there at the same time. There were many tents in the two camps, which were scattered in different positions of the camps. It was estimated that some people came to the island one day earlier. Both camps were on a mountain platform close to the sea. The beach by the sea was full of large and small reefs. Our little Dawnxi ate some snacks we brought, and then we began to continue sketching and painting. Time passed quickly. More than two hours passed in the blink of an eye. We began to walk around the island.
Just out of the camp, our little Dawnxi dragged us down to a small beach less than 100 meters wide sandwiched between two rock walls dozens of meters high. She wanted to see if there were crabs. Maybe the wind and waves were so strong that the crabs hid in their holes. Then we continued to walk, we encountered a large area of shrubs covering the road. These shrubs looked like lawns from a distance. In fact, they could be taller than a person and were very dense. We walked through the bushes. We put little Dawnxi's baby stroller on the roadside and began to walk up the hillside along the dirt path at our feet. The whole hillside was generally quite flat. We walked slowly with little Dawnxi in our arms. The hillside was covered with green shrubs. In the sun, we felt that the mountains were green. At first, they were just low shrubs, but when we reached the hillside, the path at the foot was covered by more and more dense shrubs.
Before long, we began to have to walk through the dense bushes more than one person tall. Fortunately, someone opened a path in the bushes before. It seems that we just have to squeeze through the bushes along the path. Later, the path under our feet disappeared. We rested for a while, drank something, and then began to go down the mountain along the original road. We felt that the Tung Lung Chau Island was characterized by quiet. If people camp here, people could sleep with the sound of the waves on the beach. Tung Lung Chau Island is a good place to watch cliffs, it is said that many Hong Kong martial arts films were shot there. It is surrounded by the sea and cliffs everywhere. When people go up the mountain on Tung Lung Chau Island, people could see the endless sea everywhere. Tung Lung Chau Island is definitely a "paradise" to avoid the noise!
