The Red Violin》, painted by dawnxisoul393

The Red Violin

The name of our painting, The Red Violin, is actually borrowed from the title of a film. That day, while we were painting on a remote beach on Lamma Island, Hong Kong, an incredible scene appeared before our eyes: a small, shiny black dog found a broken red violin on the sea near the beach, ran towards it, and caught it in its mouth, then ran wildly on the beach in excitement. Daniel said that many years ago, he had seen the film "The Red Violin" which won the Oscar for Best Original Soundtrack, directed by the famous Canadian director Francois Girard. The main plot of the film is still fresh in his mind, but he can't remember the names of people and places clearly. Daniel said the story of the film is even more incredible than the plot we just saw.

We listened to the film's violin score on our computers at the beach and our hearts were pounding ...,  American violinist Joshua Bell's performance of the film music for the international film festival masterpiece "The Red Violin" brought the life of "The Red Violin" to life again through his skillful hands. At the age of 32, Joshua Bell had already been in the music industry for nearly 20 years, winning numerous awards, including an Academy Award and a Grammy, and was at the peak of his musical career, the most extraordinary golden age of his life. The red violin, hidden beneath its ominous appearance, turned out to be a man's love and hope. Over the past three hundred years, the years have left traces on the violin, countless hands have touched it, countless people have owned it, played it, and finally lost it.

The red violin is a witness to the ups and downs of countless people's fortunes. People find spirituality in the red violin, and it is priceless because of the love and dreams it holds. The film chronicles a legendary violin that has weathered 300 years and accompanied several generations. In 17th century Italy, Nicolo Bussotti, a master violin maker, was working on the most beautiful piece of his life, intended as a gift for his soon-to-be-born child. His beloved wife died in childbirth, along with the child in her womb. Nicolo Bussotti was devastated by the news. He brushed the blood of his dead wife and his deep thoughts on the violin, and the legendary "red violin" was born. A monastery in Austria bought the violin and, after passing it down through the generations, it came into the hands of its new owner, the orphan Kaspar.

Everyone found that the little boy had extraordinary musical talent, so they introduced him to a famous French music master at that time. The French music master also considered that the child was indeed a child music genius and decided to take him to the competition held by the royal family to find young musicians. The schedule of the competition was getting closer and closer, the French music master urged Kaspar to practice the piano every day, but he soon found that Kaspar's infatuation with his violin was incredible. Kaspar even had to hold the violin when he slept. The French music master tried to take the violin away from the sleeping boy, resulting in the boy's heart-stopping for a minute. At the beginning of the competition, Kaspar heard the prince say he wanted to buy his violin, he suddenly fainted on the ground and never got up again.

The red violin was buried with the child, but later the grave robbers dug it out. The Red Violin fell into the hands of the wandering Gypsies and spread among the world from generation to generation.

In 1893, British music composer and violinist Pope, who was in love with novelist Victoria at that time, was deeply attracted by this beautiful violin and bought it. Ever since the red violin came into Pope's life, Pope's whole life seemed to be taken over by it. Victoria eventually realized that it was this violin that has become her rival in love and that it holds Pope in its grip like a woman. Jealous, Victoria shot the violin and left. Pope, who lost his lover, committed suicide. Pope's manservant took the violin back to his native Shanghai and pawned it to a pawn store. The red violin lay quietly in a pawnshop for decades until one day a young mother bought it for her daughter Xiang Bei.

In 1966, when the Great Cultural Revolution swept through China, Xiang Bei, the Red Guard, was supposed to join the others in denouncing and criticizing a music teacher who taught a Western instrument, but she quietly saved him. Realizing that she would certainly pay for it, Xiang Bei entrusted her red violin, which she had loved since childhood, to her music teacher and implored him to keep it in his collection before the doom came. When the Great Cultural Revolution ended, the violin finally saw the light of day and was sent to Montreal for auction. It was lying quietly on the auction stand when it caught the attention of Charles Morritz, a New York-based identification expert, who, after a series of authoritative scientific tests, confirmed the origin of this enigmatic instrument, which was the favorite work of 17th-century master Nicolo Bussotti, the long-lost red violin of legend.

It is the legendary red violin that was lost so long ago. Once the violin's origins were established, countless bidders came from all over the world, eager to participate in its auction. They included representatives of the Austrian monastery that nurtured Kaspar, descendants of the Pope family, a Chinese businessman who had known Xiang Bei as a child, and many wealthy merchants who came to visit. However, none of them knew the true value of the red violin. Only Charles Morritz, the expert in the identification, knew that the frightening red color was painted by the blood of Master Nicolo Bussotti's wife. Only he knew its true value, a value that had nothing to do with money and that no amount of dollars could buy. With the help of a friend, Maurice made a perfect replica of a similar red violin and placed it in the auction room, while hiding the real one under his coat and quietly leaving the auction room on his way back to New York.

He intended to give the violin to his child as a gift of love because he wanted to help it fulfill its original destiny - as a symbol of eternal love and a link between art and life, passed from father to child. There are 78 Tarot cards in total, including 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards, which can be used separately for divination, or the 78 cards can be mixed and used together for divination. There are many different types of tarot cards, at least thousands of them, but most of them are actually extended from the three major tarot systems in the world. Positive and negative usually refer to the positive and negative aspects of the cards when the tarot cards are turned over for divination. There are different interpretations when interpreting the meanings of the cards. Generally, the inversion represents a relatively weak meaning, for example, the inversion of the Sun, that love is not bright ambiguous relationship needs to wait, while the positive position should be direct more blessed love dazzling love, etc.

The meaning of a positive position is usually: to move forward, to solve problems, to enlighten the confused.

The Curse of Five Tarot Cards

The meaning of the Tarot cards upside-down position is usually: not wanting to change, no possibility, irregularity, the problem of change. There is only one general direction for the future, and the diviner's answer refers to whether a thing is generally good or bad, more likely or less likely. A person's destiny is uncertain, the tarot astrologer gives us only a suggestion, the result of the divination is not the result we have to experience. What destiny is in our own hands, depends on our own attitude, the diviner gives us only a suggestion, a reference.

By telling the story of a violin that traveled through three centuries of time and space, "The Red Violin" showed different cultural traditions and differences and reflected the world's situation. It is a dramatic and epic work. The red violin was a legend that flowed through three hundred years, and by any measure, "The Red Violin" is a masterpiece of cinematic art. But at the same time, "The Red Violin" is a film that exhausts us physically and emotionally, like a long and intense love affair that consumes too much of our emotions, as if we ourselves have been through centuries of historical change. The birth of this superb violin was at first a mere token of a father's love for his wife and son. The wife in labor sought divination for the future with her future mother's peculiar anxiety, and a deck of tarot cards was drawn at random to reveal the next three hundred years gradually...

The first tarot card: The Moon, reversed. In the Tarot, the Moon is one of the few cards that has no good explanation for its positive and negative aspects. The Moon in its positive position represents "restlessness and premature death" while the Moon in its negative position is "the removal of restlessness and longevity". However, in some respects, the reversed moon is interpreted by the reader as "long life and far travel", with tragic implications. The luthier's beloved wife eventually died in childbirth, but her soul seemed to revolve around the violin forever. A journey began, and the red violin became a treacherous passerby in many people's lives. The violin, originally a gift from the luthier to his child, was stained red by his wife's blood but became a spell of sorrow. It is like a beautiful woman, a beauty and a curse, a violin that drove all those who handled it crazy, that confirmed the legend of centuries, and that was itself a legend. From the beginning, this red violin has been a source of hope for new life and a remembrance of the dead.

The second tarot card: The Inverted Man, reversed. The Hanged Man is in a positive position, meaning "worthy sacrifice", and in the negative position, "worthless sacrifice". The second prophecy of the poker card unfolds: "danger, weakness, illness, and many disasters". The one who fell for the red violin was a talented young man, still a young child, but he could play Mozart with the instrument that only adults can hold. The young genius loved the violin so much that he had to hold it even in his sleep. Just as a contest began, the prodigy suddenly collapsed and never got up. The red violin was placed in the prodigy's coffin by the kind priests as a burial object. The orphaned prodigy was unaware of the violin's centuries of experience, though, except that the red violin allowed him to navigate those slender and tough strings. Unfortunately, he was not able to witness the birth of another Mozart, and the red violin was laid to rest in the grave with the orphaned prodigy.

The third tarot card: The Devil, positive. The positive aspect of the Devil, whose wording is "temptation". The red violin was taken out of the coffin of the boy genius by a grave robber and fell into the hands of a gypsy artist. The red violin continued to wander through countless lives, starting a new "life cycle". "Lust and energy are constantly being released." The third card brought a handsome British musician performer with a devilish talent, whose endless sexual desire with his lover was a source of inspiration. The performer found inspiration in women and then played improvised compositions on his red violin. Without women's bodies, the performer was a loser. The endless lust between the performer and the women was only a substitute for the red violin, and the women, instead of the red violin, complete the passionate intercourse with the performer, they were the real third party. In terms of Christianity, it fulfilled the assertion of "he is the devil" in the divination.

The fourth tarot card: Judgment, reversed. The positive position of the Judgment means "justice", while the inverse position represents "unjust judgment". In the early twentieth century, the red violin was brought to China by the servant of the British musician performer who committed suicide and was sold to a pawn store. And unfold the prophecy of the fourth card: "You will be found guilty in a great trial in front of a power, beware of the flames". During the Cultural Revolution in China in the 1960s, Western music was the subject of criticism, and even those who taught it and the instruments were not spared. The violins were buried in the fire as "instruments of Western bourgeois art". The new owner of the red violin in China, a beautiful and kind girl, used her conscience and wit to save a music teacher who was teaching the violin at a criticism meeting. Afterward, she realized that she would pay for it with her life, so she entrusted the red violin to the music teacher when danger arrived. She told her music teacher that her mother, a famous musician, had bought her this red violin when she was a child.

The fifth tarot card: Death, positive. The positive aspect of Death, although it has the meaning of "death". But behind this horrible card language, also contains the "new life" of nirvana. As the last card with the skeleton was turned over, the red violin saw the light again, although the teacher who took it in had passed away. "Your journey is over, but now you are strong, like the trees of the forest." The red violin was sent to the Montreal auction hall after the death of the Chinese music teacher, attracting numerous admirers and money. The appearance of the red violin, however, attracted the attention of an expert appraiser who, through modern scientific techniques, finally discovered the secret behind the famous instrument. The last prophecy was "In this card, I see rebirth". This flawlessly handcrafted work of art, the red violin, is not only an expression of hope and nostalgia but also of life and love, as the master violin maker fused his beloved wife into the red violin so that her beauty would remain intact for three hundred years. Finally, the red violin did not become a collector's item of wealth, it continues to play the song of rebirth in its life.

Like the story of the red violin and the fate of its owners, it foresaw three centuries of danger, weakness, illness, and death. From its conception, the red violin seems to have been associated with all kinds of misfortune and suffering, and all those associated with it have suffered a sad life. The violin itself had gradually changed in the endless struggle, possession, and entanglement, and has become more elegant and noble due to the years.

The True Value of the Red Violin

Not long after the film begins, the old servant soothsayer saw the future of the mistress, although it is metaphorical and euphemistic. She only said that the mistress will have a long journey. But after watching the whole film, it is not difficult to think that the prophecy is both the life of the mistress and the future of the red violin. The violin is the mistress. The master violin maker injected the soul of this violin with his powerful love so that his wife's life could continue. Despite its many turbulent and twisted experiences, the violin felt the sincerity of a musical prodigy, the passion of a musical virtuoso, and the conscience of the girl who protected it. No one really understood the suffering and sorrow of the red violin until the appraiser came along. He ended the red violin's centuries-long journey and gave it a sunny future. The violin was born out of love, and it must continue out of love.

As the cycle of life, the beginning is also the end. The last tarot card to foretell the new life. When the secret was revealed, hidden beneath the red violin's ominous experience, it turned out to be a man's love and hope. Three hundred years later, the violin is still the same violin, but the years have left traces on it. Countless hands have touched its body, countless people have owned it, played it, and finally lost it. The red violin is a witness to countless people who have seen their fortunes rose and fell. Charles Morritz, a New York identification expert knew its origins, knew that the alarming red color was the result of blood, and he knew its true value, a value that had nothing to do with money and that no amount of money could buy. The story of a violin that traveled through three centuries of time and space showed the different cultural traditions and differences, reflecting the world.

The final prophecy is "In this card, I see rebirth". This flawlessly handcrafted work of art, the red violin, is not only an expression of nostalgia and hope but also an infusion of life and love. The master violin maker fused his beloved wife into the red violin so that her beauty would remain intact for three hundred years. Finally, the red violin did not become a collector's item of wealth. The legend of a violin, through centuries, was linked together. The red violin had different circumstances at different times. The story unfolded its narrative on the two main lines of divination and auction sites. When the red violin reentered the spotlight, the composition of the paint on the surface of the violin was found to be unknown in the ongoing research. The identification expert took a sample and sent it to the University of Montreal for archaeological identification and was staggered by the answer - the essential ingredient of the paint was human blood.

Illustrated by dawnxisoul393

It was investigated and identified by DNA as the blood of the wife of master luthier Nicolo Bussotti, who died in childbirth. Knowing this, the identification expert had the audacious idea of swapping a high-quality replica of the red violin with the real one during the auction, with the idea of fulfilling the original mission of the violin - as a symbol of eternal love and a link between art and life, passed from father to child. Just as the master violin maker had hoped when he made the violin, the violin was a symbol of eternal love and the bond between art and life. From the legendary artisan who made the violin at the beginning of the story, to the final episode where the expert appraiser replaced the real red violin with an imitation, the story was both interesting and twisted.

This story told us about several different emotional experiences and skilfully described the true value of the red violin. The red violin symbolized a life-like love for the art of music, a childlike innocence, an angelic love. All the products of desire are firmly in the grip of people's souls. The red violin symbolized disappointment and doubt, hope and faith, the pursuit of true love, beauty, and belief. The red violin represents the truest, most righteous feelings of the human heart. The red violin was discovered because of its flawlessness, because of its long history. It was consigned to auction as a treasure, and countless people came with different purposes, countless people wanted to take the red violin for themselves. Unlike others who only knew the surface value of the red violin, the identification expert understood its true value and the human emotions that spilled out of the red violin.

Illustrated by dawnxisoul393

The identification expert was a true lover of the red violin, and a beautiful thing can only be truly treasured in the hands of someone who knew its value. The violin music in the film is beautiful in the five parts of the story, either sad, confiding, confused, urgent, or melodious. Perhaps this red violin foretells the life of a person, from the love of relatives at birth to growing up, because of the innocent fascination with things, can not control the emotional demons, to the illusion of youth lust flow, so that people are blinded by desire, to the middle age through the metamorphosis of reality, can't stick to the truth and go with the flow, draw in the fame and fortune, and then to the old age to seek peace and harmony, retired in the vicissitudes of life ... this is a life that makes one feel the breath of fate every minute.

Illustrated by dawnxisoul393

Although this instrument seems to be haunted by a curse, it is still wonderfully valuable in its own right. We cannot deny that those who once owned the red violin, despite their short lives, still played the most beautiful music of their lives with it. The musical prodigy used it to love music, the musician used it to chase inspiration and passion, The kind girl used it to remind the world that warmth and hope still exist. And the luthier himself, his love, along with his wife's body and soul, is immortalized in this violin. This is not a horrifying and puzzling story, the red violin tells us that in the infinite variables of one's life, there are things of true value that are worth pursuing for a lifetime.

The entire auction hall was filled with rich "artists", but few people were truly filled with love and affection and knew the true value of the red violin. This violin was once hidden, but no one can stop people from enjoying music, no one can stop people from understanding the true value of art. Art knows no boundaries, it just requires us to have the eyes to discover beauty. When the maker of the red violin used the best materials to make this violin to give to his unborn child, after the unfortunate death of his wife and child, he used his wife's blood to finish making this violin, full of deep love and affection. Tarot card quote: "Eventually, it will stop traveling and find a peaceful home." It was clear from the tears that filled Charles Morritz's eyes after listening to the audition that he was a person who truly appreciated music and that he was perfect for having the violin.

Illustrated by dawnxisoul393

When Charles Morritz got his dream violin, he called his wife and child in the cab, which also aptly mirrored the mission of the red violin. His love and care for the red violin and his knowledge of its value showed that he was the soulmate of the red violin.
