Hong Kong's seagulls are mainly winter migratory birds and can be easily seen on remote outlying islands and in the wetlands of bays in winter and spring. However, for some unknown reasons, it is very difficult to see seagulls in Peng Chau on weekdays. To observe and sketch seagulls, we visited many places frequented by seagulls in winter and spring. They either fly over the sea or hover on the sandy beaches, and they also like to gather at the seashore where food is abundant. Seagulls are graceful and their feathers are as white as snow. The world of seagulls is serene and welcoming. Seagulls are like fallen leaves floating in the wind, telling of years gone by. Leaving behind heavy worries, the bright feathers cut through the crest of the waves, how calm! Seagulls' eyes are round and blue, and the blue, blue sea flickers in the pupils, they are sacred pots of treasure, the light source of thousands of pearls. Seagulls take the vastness of the sea as their home, and the sea is their song of joy. The seagulls bravely fight the waves, showing the spirit of the seagulls.

Everywhere the seagulls' figure went, all the suspicion, terror, contempt, and humiliation slipped away, leaving only the azure and clear sea and sky. The power to dispel darkness and bring light is inherent in the character of the seagull. The seagull stands in the secular net, looking around the east and west, north and south. The seagulls are free spirits who open the door of purity. The spirit of seagulls expresses our longing for light and our thoughts and feelings for the pursuit of ideals. The bright wings, the white feathers, and the fresh scent of seagulls are so enchanting to us. The pure and bright environment that seagulls live in is the pure and bright ideal world that people are looking forward to. The courage and firmness that seagulls show precisely reflect the spirit of people's exploration of life and pursuit of ideals. The boundless blue sea stretches continuously and finally meets the sky at the horizon.

The blue sky is quiet, but it becomes lively because of the light-flying dancers - seagulls. They either walk alone or dance in groups, and the sky and the coast are their stages. Seagulls do not have strong thinking abilities, and in this world of weakness, they are weak. The environment in which humans live will not always protect them, and may even harm them. In a world dominated by humans, seagulls are creatures that belong to nature, species that belong to another world, and only simple places are suitable for them to live and live. They are all cute, and humans are not all cute. They are not aggressive, but humans have the habit of being aggressive. They give humans a lot of kindness and beauty, but humans often unkindly destroy their living environment. Do not think that beautiful things can impress all humans.

Humans seem to be the most unreliable and untrustworthy. They think most about humans themselves, and they are also hypocritical and deceptive. Hong Kong is the hometown of seagulls. Hong Kong is a city of the sea， Hong Kong is a city loved by seagulls. Hong Kong has a reputation as a constant temperature air conditioner， there is no snow in winter here， and the warm sunshine is always like spring. Through the gaps between the leaves, the sunshine is mottled on the ground. The sky here is clear, and the different shades of blue seem to be a barrier to isolate the winter, blocking all the haze outside. There is no haze in the Bauhinia City, and everything is so clear. Hong Kong, with the smell of breeze, sunshine, and human feelings, tells the world that there are not only high-rise buildings here, but also countless wetlands, large country parks, towering green mountains, beautiful coasts, and beautiful beaches. In this picturesque seaside city, we feel the wonderful time brought by the four seasons.  

It is not only the sunny weather and good natural environment but also the people of Hong Kong that have made seagulls yearn for Hong Kong. In the years when seagulls and Hong Kong have been nestled together, seagulls and the kind-hearted people in Hong Kong have become the most beautiful scenery in Hong Kong. The people of Hong Kong love seagulls affectionately. With the change of time, their emotions have not changed, and the strong ties between seagulls and Hong Kong people have not changed. Hong Kong is a city embraced by seagulls. Watching the seagulls, the sea breeze is blowing in our ears, the sun is shining overhead, and one or two distant ship sirens are telling people that this is one of the busiest harbors in the world. Every day, countless seagulls are lingering on the shores of Hong Kong, playing and fluttering gracefully, enjoying themselves immensely. Find a beautiful reef, breathe the fresh air of the coast, sit quietly, watch seagulls, painting seagulls.

Usually, when we paint on the beach, sometimes the sky is clear, sometimes the sea is windy, and there is lightning. However, in any case, we can always see those little white seagulls across the sky, across the sea. They either soar in the sky, or rush to the sea to fish, surf, or play and rest on the beach. The vigorous posture of seagulls is just like the spirits coming from heaven. They are colorful. Especially when hundreds of seagulls fly together, they are like snowflakes and white Bauhinia flowers floating all over the sky. We are often excited by the spectacular scene when seagulls flock together. We have observed for many years that the head and neck of many seagulls in Hong Kong are white, the back, shoulder, and wing coverts are slate gray, the waist and tail coverts and tail feathers are pure white, and the beak and claws are orange. Generally speaking, the young gull is milky white with light brown stripes on the upper body, white and brown stripes on the tail, grayish-brown on the tail, and flesh color on the beak and claws.

The breeding season of seagulls is from April to July every year. Seagull's nest is very simple, with withered grass, twigs, and other things piled into a shallow plate. Each gull family has its own sphere of influence and does not allow other birds to invade. Gulls lay two to three eggs at a time. The eggs are incubated by male and female gulls in turn. 24 to 28 days later, the young gulls will pop out of their shells. 

It was the end of May on Peng Chau Island in Hong Kong. In Peng Chau, which we all thought was not frequented by seagulls, a miracle happened! It was a sunny day and several large flocks of seagulls were flying over the sea. We were amazed by the spectacular view. A flock of seagulls swept over our heads. A few seagulls seemed to have dropped out of the flock and broke away from it. One by one, they flew around the island, seemingly without stopping. Out of curiosity, we packed up our painting tools and followed the gulls around the island to see what gull secrets we could find.

Suddenly, we found a gull nest, three young gulls, and two adults on a relatively flat spot on a remote cliff of the island. We saw one of the two adult gulls nodding and regurgitating, and the three young gulls were doing the same thing. Looking at this scene, it should be the mother gull feeding the baby gulls. Unlike other chicks, baby gulls usually do not open their mouths and wait for their mothers to feed them. Instead, they put their beaks directly into their mother's mouths to eat. Our acrylic painting "Happy Seagull Family" depicts a mother gull who has just caught a baby fish from the sea and she returns to her nest to feed her baby. The gull's father is also with them. It is a happy gull family, and the baby gulls are mainly creamy white, highlighting the clarity of the image.
