Living on the land of Hong Kong and painting all kinds of scenes and scenery on the coast of Hong Kong, we are like two folk painters who travel through the coastal towns and beaches of Hong Kong, carrying painting tools on our backs, wandering around and painting everywhere. Although we have moved our home in Hong Kong from time to time, the location was always on the coast or not far from it. When we lived in Discovery Bay on Lantau Island, it was no exception. When we stayed at the beach, besides painting, reading, or writing, we were always observing the changes and movements of the sea and sea birds. The mysterious scenery of the sea was so fascinating, the sea brought us a lot of imagination and a lot of longing. We loved to watch the sunrise at sea, so we often got up very early. We often arrived at the shore before the sun rose, sitting on a huge reef on the beach and quietly waiting for the sunrise.

When it was dawn, some red color floated in the east, long, like a beautiful brocade. After a while, the sun shyly showed half of its face, and soon, the sun shone, half of the sky was red, and the sea woke up from its dream with waves. The sea imagery was an important clue to understand our sea lyric paintings. In our sea paintings, which are pursued by self-identity painting and cultural root-seeking, the sea symbolizes the flow and contains some kind of aesthetic modernity criticism and redemption. We have always refused to give up our ideal of a lyrical painting of the sea. Every time we stand on any shore in Hong Kong, we are moved by a genuine feeling. All of our lyrical paintings of the sea are directed to one place only, and that is our home, Hong Kong, the place we have always guarded without leaving. No matter how long we spent on our studies, works, and researches abroad, we eventually came back to Hong Kong, our home.

Hong Kong is a poetic place where we live, and we have been passionately painting the sea for many years. When we review our paintings, we always marvel at the charm of Hong Kong. Our sea paintings all reflect the local conditions and customs of Hong Kong. Our love for the sea of Hong Kong is sincere, and because this love is sometimes unimaginable and difficult to relay, we have to resort to painting. From a certain perspective, we are familiar with the sea of Hong Kong, which is not only conceptually familiar with the coast of Hong Kong, the waves, the islands, the reefs, the sky, the sea birds, the beaches, and other things, but we have established an emotional connection and dependence with these things in the softest and most sensitive place of our hearts. These most common things in Hong Kong have become our lyrical tools for the sea.

Today, mankind is in a new era, Hong Kong is in a new era, a new era has come to us, we will welcome it with passion. To welcome it, we will paint new pictures of Hong Kong's sea with greater creative enthusiasm. If it is a good painting, it is a good painting no matter what form it takes, if it is not a good painting, it is not a good painting no matter what form it takes. In our eyes, every little spray in the sea of Hong Kong and every sail on the sea of Hong Kong are precious, because they are broad-minded, confident, and optimistic. We feel that painting the pure soul of the sea is often more profound and long-lasting than painting with beautiful forms and sculptures. There is nothing richer than life itself, nature itself, and the sea itself. To make the painting of the sea richer, we must open our eyes wide and gaze at life and nature.

The most ideal painting is the one that can be interpreted by the most simple and ordinary colors. It seems that we are very lucky because we can find and be moved by every plant and even every inch of sunshine in the sea of Hong Kong. Such understanding of Hong Kong‘s sea is spread throughout our sea paintings. For example, when the sun shines with a golden glow and shines on the sea, it is as if fairies are scattering broken gold in the sky, and the broken gold shimmers on the tiny waves of the rippling sea, and the whole sea looks like blue silk studded with jewels. The magnificent sea view of Hong Kong is even connected with horses. It is said that everything is possible in Hong Kong, and it is true. In our days living in Discovery Bay on Lantau Island, Hong Kong, One thing that was different from the rest of Hong Kong was the Discovery Bay‘s horses. Discovery Bay has pure European horses and carriages for residents and visitors, so people often see horses when they walk around Discovery Bay.

We have created some coastal horse paintings based on the beautiful seascape of Discovery Bay and the horses. We still feel excited every time we see again those paintings. We are often moved by the beautiful seascape of Discovery Bay and those strong horses. This painting "Eagle Playing with Horse" is one of the paintings about horses we created in Discovery Bay. With the sun shining on the sea and our hearts are hidden in the millions of waves, from the moment we first saw the horse and the waves appearing on the same shore, whether we woke up or fell asleep, a legend about the sea and the handsome horses has permeated our life journey. Looking back at the time when we painted "Eagle Playing with Horse", we still feel the same fervor and passion as we did then. In the painting, the handsome horse's thick mane shines in the brilliant sunlight, and the horse's eyes are like a clear spring, penetrating and unfathomable. A sentimental animal, the horse has the qualities of perseverance and willingness to give. The horse is loyal to its master, goes forward, and runs for thousands of miles without getting tired.

Wherever we go in Hong Kong, we will find eagles soaring freely in the sky, and we are amazed by the number of eagles in Hong Kong. Sometimes we see more than a dozen eagles circling in the sky at the same time. Eagle is a kind of raptor. Eagles are very difficult to approach and they hover far in the sky. Every night, they gather in the coastal sky, because at this time, all kinds of seabirds that go out to forage in the daytime will return to their habitats, and the alert of seabirds returning to the nest is lowered at this time, and the evening becomes the best time of the day for eagles to hunt, so many seabirds become the victims of eagles' claws. In addition, other wild animals such as fish are also the prey of eagles. It is said that the seagull is the angel of the Hong Kong coast, while the eagle is the king of the sky. Eagles soar in the vast sky and hover over the boundless sea. The eagle's graceful gliding posture combines beauty and strength, elegant but not flashy, quietly expressing its feelings.

All of our oceanic feelings are closely related to every spectacular wave in the sea, every object on the shore, every creature in the ocean, and every bird in the sky. In fact, eagles are very beautiful and elegant. The eagle's feathers have blue lusters in the sun, and its eyes are like glittering jadeite. The eagle in the painting has a graceful posture and a noble temperament. The eagle soars in the sky, free and unrestrained, how precious is freedom!

When we saw the scene in the painting that day, or rather, afterward, saw more of it in our dreams, and finally painted it on our drawing board, our hearts were finally relieved. From that moment on, we had more faith in our hearts, faith in love. Our love for the sea is our soul, our motivation to live and create.
